The unit is accredited for Advanced Training with the Faculty of Pain Medicine for attainment of the FFPMANZCA degree. The unit is currently enrolled for certification against an ISO9001 Quality Management System which is nationally and internationally recognised.

Hunter Pain Specialists provides non-procedural methods for pain management as well as a range of procedural solutions to assist in the management and/or minimisation of chronic pain.

Our multidisciplinary team includes Specialist Pain Medicine Physicians, Specialist Anaesthetists, Specialist Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Allied health Workers in a variety of fields and a team of Pain Management Nurses.

The unit is associated with Hamilton Day Surgery Centre which is a fully accredited stand-alone day surgery and was established to provide excellence in surgical care in pain management including Advanced Pain Therapies such as Spinal Cord Stimulation.

The unit is committed to research and is associated with Genesis Research Services offering clinical trials in a comprehensive range of therapeutic areas through continuing education and industry bench marking to provide the highest level of patient care.

Each discipline employs highly skilled staff who are committed and dedicated to the provision of safe and effective patient care in a controlled environment.

Ideally the candidate will meet acceptance by the Faculty of Pain Medicine, ANZCA, as an enrolled trainee in Pain Medicine. Preference will be given to applicants in their 2nd professional development year. Applicants can be from any primary specialty approved by the Faculty of Pain Medicine (FPM) and include anaesthesia, rehabilitation medicine, surgery, medicine, psychiatry or general practice. International graduates will also be considered.

Applicants should be registered with FPM and planning to complete the FFPMANZCA training and examination requirements, and who possess Fellowship from a recognised relevant Australasian Specialist College or equivalent and will have completed 12 months of initial training by May 2017

Minimum Criteria

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or eligible for registration
  • Australian Fellowship or Advanced Trainee (all exams passed) in the College of Anaesthesia, Medicine, Surgery, Rehabilitation or Psychiatry. International fellowships recognised by the equivalent Australian college are also acceptable.
  • Demonstrated advanced written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a Multidisciplinary Team
  • Commitment to further education and teaching
  • Previous experience in acute and/or chronic pain management
  • Demonstrated previous involvement in research
