I was appointed president of the International Neuromodulation Society in September of 2021 for a 3-year period. My term as president ends in September of next year. It was a great honour to be appointed by 30 of my global peers to lead the organisation for this period of time.
The role of the society is to foster education amongst physicians for neuromodulation, to promote research in neuromodulation for existing conditions and inventing new ways to treat conditions that are yet to be touched by neuromodulation. And in addition to that, reaching out to patients, to make patients aware of what the possibilities and opportunities are that new modulation may have to treat their condition, and even making governments aware of the role of it and how it should be supported.
It's a busy role in the society. I'm up at 5:00 AM, liaising with the rest of the world in Europe and in the United States. It's something that I'm very proud to be the first Australian to ever hold the position. It is really a wonderful society that is a very multidisciplinary group of both doctors, as well as nurses, allied health practitioners, industry representatives, engineers, researchers, all of whom are dedicated to furthering the use of neuromodulation as a therapy for improving the life of humankind.
