Analgesic Efficacy and Safety of Curcumanoids in Clinical Practice: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomised Controlled Trials. Sahebkar A and Henrotin Y. Pain Medicine 2016 Jun
This study found eight randomised controlled trials which included 606 randomised patients. Curcumanoids were found to significantly reduce pain: standardised difference = -0.6; P = 0.04. This effect was found to be independent of administered dose and duration of treatment and was free from publication bias. Commentary of this confirms knowledge that curcumanoids are analgesics and potentially have a role to play in clinical relief of pain. Clearly, more work needs to be done in refining dose and duration of treatment and providing clinical pathways and guidelines. The side effect profile appears to be benign, encouraging further research in this area.
