Why research matters for pain management

07/11/2025

Many patients come to a pain clinic because their pain is persistent, distressing, and difficult to manage. For some, it can take months to get pain under control, and for a small number, it may not fully resolve. In these cases, our role is to help patients live with and manage ongoing pain.

It’s this reality that makes research so important at Hunter Pain Specialists. When pain does not settle, clinical trials and ongoing studies allow us to explore new treatments, develop better solutions, and improve care for both current and future patients. Since 2005, our dedicated research unit, Genesis Research Services, has run more than 60 trials and continues to conduct over 10 studies each year. These trials not only examine pain symptoms but also the underlying conditions that cause them. Participating in research can also be empowering, giving patients the opportunity to contribute to advances in pain management.

At Hunter Pain Specialists, we are committed to combining compassionate care with research through Genesis, supporting patients today while working toward better solutions for tomorrow.
